A most helpful shift in building a happier closet for myself has been moving away from a mindset of trying to “accomplish” style all at once, and instead cultivating a mindset focused on maximizing helpful closet decisions and minimizing unhelpful closet decisions one by one, then reviewing these patterns incrementally.
It can be easy to end one year or start the next ruminating on where you fell short (I spent too much!) or looking toward the future (anyone already having thoughts on about a new wishlist to the tune of “THESE will be the pieces that make me into who I want to be this year!!” Didn’t we say that last year…).
One positive spin is the obvious, to celebrate the things we did well this year, typically through the lens of “good” purchases. The practice I’ve added into my life is celebrating the “negative space”. What am I happy I refused or released in the last year? Here’s my style manifestation of what I’m happy I said “no” to in 2023.
