More Basics, More Problems?
"wardrobe staple" FOMO, inspiration sickness, & "basics" as personal style
While it is not yet Taurus season, it is my birthday month, so this week, after work, I finally slammed down the $215 for the stupid pair of undeniably chic and versatile silk Reformation pants I’ve been stewing on for a year, most recently referenced in last week’s browsing letter. The pants aren’t actually stupid, they’re just my most recent example of wanting something for a very long time, getting it, and of course, returning it.
However, this is not a de-influencing post in which I rant about how you can do so much better than a particular product. I don’t intimately know you (although I wish I did) and thus don’t know what’s good or “bad” for you in the way of specific items. This is an invitation to ask the question I don’t think we ask enough: are wardrobe “staples” inherently better purchases, and what wardrobe staples do we actually need?
